United wins first county title since1992

EAST PALESTINE — The United boys track team isn’t ready to stop after its first Columbiana County title since 1992.

“I think some of these kids have higher dreams than the county,” United boys coach Troy Brunner said.

The Eagles won four straight races — including 1-2 finishes in the 800-meter run and 200-meter dash — to lift them to victory at the 105th annual Columbiana County Track and Field Meet Tuesday.

Bulldogs have postseason in sights

EAST PALESTINE — As the baseball regular season winds down, East Palestine is slowly shifting its focus to the postseason and a possible top seed in the Division III sectional tournament.

“We’re hoping to play two (today), but even if we don’t, I think we’ll be good enough to get the first or second seed, which means we’ll get a bye and home game for the sectional final,” East Palestine coach John Snyder said.

Salem, Beaver win County meets

COLUMBIANA — Salem’s boys and Beaver Local’s girls came away with team championships at the 24th annual Columbiana County Middle School Track and Field Meet Friday at Crestview High School.

Salem’s boys scored 134 points to Crestview’s 109 to top the field of 10 teams. Columbiana’s Mat Huk was a top individual performer with two event wins.

EAST PALESTINE — The East Liverpool Christian tennis team earned it’s 10th win of the season in a 4-1 victory over East Palestine, Wednesday.

The Bulldogs lone win came at No. 3 singles when Aaron Householder topped Josh Smith, 6-1, 7-6.

Jordan Waterfill started things off for ELCS with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Roy Fruit at No. 1 singles.

EP RELAYS BREAK NEW GROUND

For over 30 years East Palestine has hosted the EP Relays, and the boys have run the 4x1600 relay.

An event which was not offered to the girl teams. But now the girls will have the same oppertunity to run this event. The girls first 4x1600 relay ran at the EP relays friday with eight girl teams competing.

East Palestine girls team placed 3rd overall with a team consisting of Erica Wilson, Leighann Kelvington, Erica Dilworth and Elizabeth Kelvington.
